Just found out when I called about why I haven't heard or gotten an email about my order of the 11th.
After the girl went back to shipping she said that last week they(shipping) was closed for a week long inventory. And that they are a little behind!
They are catching up this morning.
Just thought that I would pass it a long.

I ordered something from them and Woodturners Catalog on the same day, got Woodturner's stuff in 2 days! Still waiting for Penn State to ship. I will try to avoid them completely in the future!

Another very satisfied customer who will stop turning before I order form Penn state again! Shipping over charges, orders screwed up and never on time........great way to keep loyal customers!

Seriously guys I spent several hundred bucks on tools while I was in Michigan to avoid having to place a Penn state order!

I used to have a terrible time with long shipping from PSI. Eventually, I called and got some persnickety guy which made it worse.

Now, I just add to all orders a note to Kelly to please ship right away and that has helped. Still the slowest shipping around though. Wish I knew why.

I have written PSI off since they shorted me two chrome kits from my last order several months ago and haven't answered my email either. They're not worth the trouble! Eventually they will have to go wholesale only unless they want to lose their dealers also!

You should send "Ed Levy" a PM on the forum here since he's the Penn State Industries guy. He goes by PSILEVYon the IAP.
Now here is an idea worth sharing.

I am not a PSI fan, have not ordered from them in some time. Fact is sometimes they ship promptly and accurately, sometimes the opposite seems to be true. Now I do not know Mr. Levy personally or professionally, but if he is the head man at PSI I would guess it would do much more good for everyone from the site to PM him their experiences and include any details that would be relevant to the transaction so he could research them properly and come to a proper resolution. Now he choose to be a member here for whatever reason. If it was to enhance his business by providing a product line that is in demand and service to go with it, I would think this feedback would be invaluable to him. Some have said that there may be other not so honorable reasons, if that were strictly the case I see no reason for a membership when just lurking around would gain you most of that info anonymously. The fact that I have seen him "chime in" on various topics says to me he is watching. The fact that some of the same stuff keeps happening means to me a couple of possibilities. 1) he does not really believe or care about what is said here (as a businessman I would think not, but.....)or 20 maybe there has not been enough SPECIFIC info given to him to fully be able to track down and eliminate the problem. It would make very little sense to me for a business owner/manager of any kind to want their name beat around in a specialized forum in which they are directly involved with so I would hope if it were communicated directly to him, with specifics, that he would want to resolve it. That is my opinion and I'm sure others will disagree.

I started turning pens about a year ago . PSI has been usually prompt with their shipments. But, I ordered a new chuck in late December and just received it. 3 weeks? Come on man!!!!

"if you drop it in a flat rate box it will cost a third of that and get here in 3-5 days instead of 2 weeks"........thats fairly specific. The same happened when I reordered.........kinda apparent which option is correct!

Well the young lady said I would have an emailed tracking number this afternoon. So far No joy in the email box! Having done business with them off and on for a number of years. I can see that this order will be my last with them. Up in till the last two orders it was always great.

I placed an order with them a few days ago knowing it would be 1 - 1 1/2 weeks before I received it It is well documented here that they are slow to ship. I know this and I made the choice to order from them anyway. It is not like I am going to be surprised by their slowness.

Thanks for the update!

Did they happen to mention the cause for the other 51 weeks? :)

Takes TIME to arrange things, for inventory!!

I remember when I worked in the parts department of a Ford dealership. It a couple weeks just to clean up and organize the parts bins and racks just so we COULD take inventory. Then a full weekend, bringing in lots of help from all the other dealerships so we could get the counting done. I'm guessing it might be a little easier today with barcodes and hand scanners, but back then it was manual counting and writing on green-bar printouts.

Pretty interesting Dave. We did 2 mil worth of inventory in 7 hours. 22 people all with scanners going full force. Lots of small and large auto parts were counted. Was back to normal by the end of the day as well.

It is interesting to me how often I see this kind of thread about PSI. I always get things in a reasonable amount of time, prompt service if I need an extra part and someone always polite to deal with when ordering by phone. I always call if there is a problem since, even though I do email, I think phone contact makes things happen quicker. I don't believe that email always reaches the intended party and have had people tell me they sent me something and I have never received it.

I've never placed an order with PSI. I've ordered from numerous small vendors and individuals here at IAP for pen kits, refills, blanks, tool rests, Delrin bushings, etc. I see nothing in the PSI catalog that I just HAVE to have, and if I do, I could probably get it or something similar from Rockler, Woodcraft, Craft Supplies, or Lee Valley, who have all served me well.

All the negative comments about PSI, compared to the positives, leads me to conclude that I'll continue to order the way I have been doing. Plus, I'll always prefer to toss a bone to one of the smaller vendors here on IAP, and if I cannot get what I need, I'll try my local Woodcraft or local lumber company. I visit them often. I buy a fair amount of large boards for other woodworking projects.

At some point I just have to conclude it ain't worth the hassle, the deck seems to be too stacked against a pleasurable outcome.

Update on mine. Ordered Jan 11, e mail that it shipped Jan 16, 4 days later tracking says it is Missouri. I guess the horses needed a rest. Been using the Woodturners catalog items, ordered the same day, for a week now. Oh well!

Rockler

I had questions for Rockler re shipping When I called they said customer service would be back to me within 24 hrs im still waiting that was 3 weeks ago complacency I guess
