I just wanted to share how I set up the 'Deluxe' pendant backer plate. I know there are many ways people have used these, I just came up with this contraption. Sure I could have used a bottle stopper mandrel, collet chuck, 4-jaw chuck, or jacobs chuck, but it would not have been as fun as making my own....

Anyway, feel free to ask questions. I just thought I would share and maybe spark some intuitive ideas from others. This is one of those things that is certainly going to evolve into some pretty good ideas/uses.

Note, I haven't attempted many pendents yet, just mostly had fun coming up with this setup.

Notes/construction sequence:
- Scrap oak, glued together, with 3/8" hole drilled through
- Drilled ~2/3 through with 1-1/8" forstner bit
- Tapped with Beall spindle tap - 1-1/4"
[all the above while using 4-jaw chuck]
- Inserted 3/8" hex bolt in hole (no glue yet - will add if necessary)
- Screwed onto headstock
- Drilled 3/8" hole into scrap 1/4" plywood and mounted on bolt - later rounded off. This 'washer' serves as a support for the backer plate when it is mounted off center.
- Screwed backer plate onto 3/8" bolt
- Used double-sided 'turners tape' to mount scrap piece of poplar on to plate - rounded over with tail stock support.
