I really like the PSI mini sketch. I did this one in HRB. It's for a coworkers son who is going to play collegiate golf. Its seems to be about the right size for a golf pencil, the downside being no eraser.

The shop pencil was a bit of a struggle. First drilling, my cheap eBay bit set led to a hole that was terribly oversized (I think that the problem is the factory edge is off-center). The nice piece of stabilized quilted maple is now in the scrap bin, maybe I will find a kit where I can make use of it some day. Then I went with a piece of walnut burl. Everything was going fine until I had to cut the tenon on the end for the nut (it's kind of a goofy kit when it comes to assembly if you've never done one). I cut the tenon on the wrong side, ugh. Then I decided to turn off both ends and add some maple segments. I forgot to line up the grain and spalt lines, ugh again. There are a also a couple of flaws where I filled holes in the burl and the accelerator caused to CA to bubble. The final product is fine, but dang it was a struggle.

You definitely had a "bit of a problem".

I assume that the finished shop pencil is on the left, and it seems to be a very nice result, finally.

I guess the mini sketch, in HRB, is on the right ... it looks very nice too.
