I received my Packard Woodworks catalog yesterday and saw a fascinating tool called a "Pen Wizard" and was wondering if anyone else has seen/used such animal. Is it useful? Is it worth the $320 they want? Etc., etc. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Dan, I have a pen Wizard. I love it, It's a good little machine but unless you are turning 100's of pens and want them all different I would try to find one on ebay or somewhere. You look like you may be getting up in years (Like me) and I doubt that it will ever pay for itself. I guess you could use it on Acrylics but probably just your wood pens. It's a little complicated to use and you have to be careful not to cut to deep. I done about 20 pens before I tired of mine

Many thanks for the input. I saw the sub-forum but I thought that the Beall system was a "buffing system". I guess I better read more carefully! I'm terribly fascinated!

Hi Dan..the pen wiz is a fascinating little unit..it does one thing that bigger more expensive ornamental mills cannot do & that's the guilloche patterns..the pen wiz on the other hand can only do things that are the size of pens and work on a pen mandrel...the $ is appropriate to the work it will do (that is my opinion)
