Hey guys.. long time no post.

I turned a pen for personal use a couple years back, and I've used the heck out of it. So much so that the transmission started screwing itself back out during use....

...so the ballpoint keeps hiding itself when I try to use it....

Is there a fix, or do I replace the transmission?

Yep. big pliers, small muttering under your breath and there it is. Time for a new one. I had new ones that never locked when twisted open.

Jim,

Assuming you're talking about a slim. I have had success with pressing out the nib first with an 1/8" dia. steel rod going through the transmission and then coming back with a 1/4" dia. steel rod and pushing out the old transmission from the nib end. Yep, they do wear out. I wish we could get transmissions as good as a real Cross mechanism. Those things last a LONG time.

I just noticed at my local Woodcraft that they now carry some of the more common pen parts including nibs, clips, center bands and transmissons. They appear to be 7 mm
