I'm not sure if this process is right or wrong; unique or common. But I want to share in case it's interesting.

Not much to say about this 3d printed file.
It holds pen parts right off the mandrel until assembly.
Design Features
Three Pillars-
for upper section, lower section and centerband.
No Touch Drying- parts can slide right onto pillars to protect finish.
Part Orientation- I no longer lose track of "which way is up" on my centerbands.

Nested Design- easy to carry four at a time without fear of them slipping apart.

Turn Horizontally- If I want pen parts to not touch the base.
Offset Pillars- provide plenty of room so pens won't touch ground.

Summary
A block of wood and some nails will do the same thing.
But it's sometimes fun to overthink solutions.

3D File
The attached obj file, penAssembly5.obj, contains 5 copies of the caddy and should print in a 4.25"x4.25" square.
I typically need to scale the model file up 10x and rotate it 90 degrees before printing.

Hi Cullen,

I really like this. Of course I am a jigs and fixtures kind of guy. I don't have the patience to do the 3D CAD work nor the resources to get a printer right now, but it certainly looks like it would be fun! I really enjoy your posts.

I lay my blanks horizontally on some wood supports on my Pen Turning Caddy, but I really like your approach. I may have to re-think my caddy and add some posts to it so I can store my turned blanks vertically like that.

Best Regards,
Dave
