Pen Press (for a starter)

I'm looking to purchase a Pen Press. This is a new hobby and i'm not interested in putting a lot of money into a high end press, just a starter press to appease the itch.

Tim, if all your looking to do is appease the itch until your ready to get good equipment this will do the job for you at very little cost.
12" Ratchet Bar Clamp/Spreader
many here use this type of clamp to press together their components.

Starter or not, there is VERY good low cost options out there. I've been doing this for years now with this bar clamp (under $10).

It's very easy to push things together slowly/ reliably by turning the handle.

A pipe clamp would be similar and if you can find local would be cheaper than any clamp shipped.

And if you already have a drill press, you can use that as a pen press also. I've never had a dedicated press, just a plug that I put in my DP.

You can also use your lathe as pen press with the tail stock & a couple pieces of wood turned flat to act as pushing plates.
