I posted a pic of the pen the other day. Here it is with the finished pencil. Also, here is another casing pen. It is a .308 casing with section of a mule deer antler shed that I found here at Fort Carson

Travis, the casing is not powdercoated. It is for a guy at work and he didn't mind the fact that it will tarnish. I hope to have the stuff start powdercoating them in a couple of weeks though.
 
I've made both powder coated brass and nickel plated brass for my pens. The reason for coating the casings is to not only protect the finish, but to keep the brass and tarnish from rubbing off onto your hands. I reload pistol and rifle brass quite often and my hands are always grimy after just a few rounds, even after I've polished them in my tumbler. Although some people may not mind the tarnish, I still prefer the nickel plated casing over the powder coated cases and either over uncoated.
