I'm having a dickens of a time getting my Jr. Gents closed ended mandrel from AS centered in the drill chuck. No matter what I try it's not in the dead middle.

I even ground off the points on the nut thinking this might be in the way deep inside the drill chuck.

Does anyone have any advice to offer?

+ 1 on NOT using a drill chuck. A MT1, MT2 (whatever your lathe takes) or even a "screw adapter" mandrel (usually $20 -$30) will qiuckly pay for itself by eliminating or greatly reducing your thow-aways cause by trying to produce "true" products with a drill chuck mounted mandrel.
