My contractor is currently redoing a large section of my house and when I can get back into my garage I'd like to make him a pen as a thank you....he's become a friend and he does amazing work. Can anyone recommend a contractor/construction themed pen kit?

Can you use some of the material he is using to remodel such as trim, counter material, siding and do a segmented pen or just a pen with trim rings. Not sure what he is doing to your home. That is what alot of cabinet makers do. I use to know a cabinet maker that made pens from the material he built the cabinets from and presented it to the owner when done and they sign the bill with it. I have watches that are constructed related that at some time I want to cast. On the list as they say.

The only thing that comes to mind, are the Knurl kits from PSI. They have kind of a rugged look to them. I also like John's idea. You could use some new or old wood from the remodel.

Just to add some other ideas...

A "ruler" pen:

Not a pen, but close... woodworkers pencil:

Not a pen, but further away.... probably doable with the same skills needed for a closed end pen if you've done one before:

I like the pencil. I didn't think of that.

As Mal suggested they have an inlay pen. I did the saw one too but do not have a photo of it but if you want to see it I can find the pen and snap one. Here is the turners pen like that. Of if you are good with a scrollsaw you can make him a clock. :)

All of the above...the professor/exemplar is a sturdy pen. Outstanding work above JT!
