I'm vacationing with my wife in Shanghai and visiting our daughter and her husband. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a source to buy kits from a manufacturer in the Shanghai area.

Also, what hard woods are native to China?

Thanks,

Can't help. But two thoughts come to mind. I hope you are not near the earthquake damage area and all right.
Also, wonder if the big Daycom factory was damaged. If so, could it cause a delay in shipping of pen kits causing a shortage here?

Chengdu is 1000 miles from Shanghai, roughly the distance from Little Rock, AR to Buffalo, NY. Dayacom is a bit farther away in Taiwan.

I must admit that I don't know where this town is but Xiamen Rizheng Industry Ltd has heaps of pen kits and parts.

I've purchased from Rizheng a number of times. They are a PSI supplier. On their retail site they offer slimlines, comforts, euros, polaris, classic and cigars. Unfortunately, they don't offer all the kits and platings that they have on their wholesale site. Minimum quantity on the wholesale site is 1000 units per kit, per plating.

Shanghai is about 500 miles from Xiamen. It's a 22 hour train ride.

Thanks everyone for the info. It looks like I won't be finding any pen kits here in Shanghai. I just returned this morning from Beijing on an all night train ride. Beijing is hopping busy getting ready for the Olympics in a few months. Very interesting city to visit. Of course, a mandatory stop was the Great Wall. I saw many old preserved trees that were all over 500 years old - unfortunately no random pruned limbs lying around for me to bring back.

Can anyone tell me the best Chinese wood to look for while I'm here? I've found some "teng" wood so far. I've never heard of that before.

BTW, Shanghai was not affected by the earthquake. We are following reports of the damage and recovery efforts and praying for all those who lost loved ones. Very tragic.

On a related note, I just noticed that Rizheng is currently donating ten percent of sales to earthquake recover efforts.
