About two years ago, a guy I used to work with gave me a piece of wood he thought I might be able to use. Turned out to be a burl. My wife has complained several times about tripping over it in the garage. Well last weekend I decided to cut it up into pen sized pieces and ended up with quite a bit of usable pieces. My friend is a country boy and loves hunting so I made him an appropriate gift for and from the wood he gave me. This is the first time I've made the "Deer Hunter" pen. It's actually quite a nice pen. I have no idea what the wood is, my best guess is maple, but it is really hard wood. The stack of wood behind the pen is all the blanks I got from the chunk he gave me plus I have a lot of little pieces that could be cast into hybrids. If I ever get into casting that is.

Beautiful pen. The burl is very nice and I like the kit you paired it with. Nice score on the blanks. Now just need to ditch the pens in the black holder to the right in the first photo; I suspect you have a stash of much nicer ones (Just kidding)!
