I've begun making a pin chuck, but I don't have a vise. What would you guys suggest I do to make the flat portion of the pin chuck? Would I be able to do it on a disc/belt sander?

What size is the belt? If it is like 1" you should be fine. The other thought would be to chuck it in your lathe, but a piece of wood on the ways so it rests on that then lock your headstock and go to town that way.

No, it's like a 4 inch belt. But yes, I guess the lathe could hold it steady for me...

Chuck it in your lathe and use a file. Check the fit OFTEN because it's easy to go too deep and ruin it. It may take a little longer this way but you'll get a much better fit.
