So on one of them it looks like Sierra, Wall Street 2, Gatsby pacifica monet apprentice classica are all the same. Am I reading that right?

Thanks Monty

They all use the same drill bit size 27/64 they have the same length tubes yes. Small differences between the sierra and gatsby is the gatsby twist at the top and sierra is in the middle. Cant say about the wall street ect because I have not made them.

Lago in theory yes in reality the bushings are not that precise. That is why some if not most use the bushings as a guide and measure the final size with calipers. The calipers will measure your pen part say a center band and tell you where you need to be on that part of the blank. What you measure may even be proud or higher than the bushing so this keeps you from overturning. Pen kits at least the lower end like slims and such can very from batch to batch and manufacture to manufacture heck even the plating will be a variable. So the answer to get the best fit use bushings as a guide and caliper for final dimensions. This is only my opinion.

snyiper,

Is there a youtube or DVD that shows someone making a pen using calipers?

I think I understand what you are saying but I would love to see someone do it to get a firm understanding.

Hmmm I dont know of one off the top of my head but simply put this is how I do it. I measure the nib in the kit (part ink refill sticks out of) I use that measurement to size that end of my blank which I usually place towards the head stock. I turn just a tad under so my finish will flush it back to size. The opposite end I do the same with the centerband when that is complete I will sand and finish that piece. I put on the next piece and use the same measurement at the head of the lathe again for the other side of the centerband then move to the tailstock end and measure the finial and size the blank finish then assemble. Do not get pieces mixed up, I assemble the first piece off to avoid any mix ups or it could look real ugly!!! Hope this made sense

it'd be good to see it updated. if whoever is in charge of that needs help, i have a bunch of assembly instructions from past kits to help out with the new info.

does anybody know the equivelant set of bushings to the Zen kit? i bought a couple kits and forgot to get the bushings for them. hoping i have matching ones at home already.

The Jr. Gent bushings are almost the same. The larger one is .511 which is the diameter for the whole barrel. If you have two sets of those you should be good. Also if you have the Jr. Emperor bushings I am fairly certain those are both .511. This would be for the nib side not the cap.
