I typically turn a few pens at a time, clean up, and then assemble them all last.
These little "carriers" I designed and 3d printed keep the pen parts organized while I continue to turn.

Design features:
Holds top, bottom and centerband: If I turn a wood centerband, it's important to remember which way is "up" and this carrier helps me do that.
Nests together: About four can be comfortably carried. The "cleats" nest and make sure nothing slides while I walk over to the assembly area.
Drying rack: If I apply dye or something that needs to dry, the conical base ensures there's minimal contact area; or the carrier can turn horizontal.

I used blocks of wood with screws for a long time, but since I have a 3d printer, it's fun to overthink things sometimes.
In case you have a 3d printer and like these, I'm attaching the *.obj file.

Thanks for looking
