As some of you may know I'm a beginner at this pen turning and I'm going really slow at the moment due to other stuff going on, like trying to move and my friend being in and out of hospital on a weekly basis... so after several weeks I've finally made pen #4.
It's not a slimline like the first 3. It's a "Cuban" from Rockler.
Also a first for me was using an Inlace Acrylester blank. Man what a mess. These things make a mess all over everything. Spent more time cleaning up than I did turning it.
Anyway, turned out pretty good. I'll see if I can get a pic later today or tomorrow.
I do have a question.
I turned with several tools to see what worked best, and finished with a few light passes with a skew. Then sanded to 600, followed by all 9 grades of MicroMesh. NO CA was applied. I did NOT apply any form of polish. I do have Novus #2 but that is all. So... I'm thinking I should have used the Novus. Reson I didn't was because the gloss after the MM was so darn good I didn't want to use something that might make it worse.
Anyway, how should I finish inlace or any other synthetic blanks?
Thanks.
Edit... I think I found my answer...

Novus 2 is somewhere between 800 and 1200 grit. (From the maker) Beats me why people use that after 12000 MM.
I like the Polish compound the makers of MM recommend after 12000 MM. (about .5-1 micron)
