About 10 years ago, a storm knocked a large limb out of one of my 200+ year old native Texas pecan trees. I had it milled into rough-cut 1" x 7-8" wide boards and they've been air drying ever since.

There is no spalting in this wood, but it is a nice, relatively light color with some light figuring, typical of pecan wood and it makes great pens.

I can fit a 10-11" long plank into a flat rate envelope and, depending on how you trim the board, you can easily get 14-18 pen blanks from one board - probably more if you really try. Or you can cut some 1" square blanks for larger projects.

A board like this is probably worth about $10, so I'd be glad to trade a board for some blanks or usable cutoffs of relatively equal value. I'm not picky about varieties -- I've been a woodworker for over 50 years but I only started turning a few months ago, so my stash of pen blanks is still in its early stages of growth.

I can handle about 10 trades if anyone is interested.

Thanks,
Ed Dohmann

I would be happy to trade, if you would like pieces of figurered cherry and/or maple. I have a connection at a local cabinet shop that can not use what we would call the good stuff, The pieces are 3/4 thick and various with and length (done shorted that 8 inches).

Thanks Ed!!! I received a very nice pecan slab in the mail this afternoon. Looking forward to cutting it into some pen blanks & get a pen out of it shortly.
