My heat pump quit on the hottest weather this year in Florida. Since I am a snowbird I am not familiar with many contractors. I got recommendation from neighbors and contacted 3 businesses to give me a price for a new heat pump system. First guy says he will be over in 30 to 40 minutes. He arrives, looks at my situation then goes to his truck for 10 minutes He gives me a price on 3 systems and says he will email the quotes to me. I said "fine" and asked if he was licensed. He said he was, left and I me never heard from him.

The second guy I talked with went out of his way to get me estimates. My first impression was very positive. He gave me 3 quotes. He was a young man
in a family business. After he left I told my wife that he was the type of person I would have liked as a student during my teaching career.

Third business, highly recommended by neighbors, said they'd be over between 12 and 1. A little after 3:00 no one has shown up or called so I call the office and tell them I was no longer interested. The lady made me out to be unreasonable----I was very polite about it.

That night I called the young man and gave him the job. The system will be installed next week. Honesty, character and humility got him the job.
