Painting vs. Brass patina

I was wondering about using brass patina for my pen tubes. It comes in brown, black, darkener and green. Couldn't this be used as a more permanent way to hide the tubes rather than using acrylic paint that sluffs off when used?

if use a acrylic paint, its a good idea to too first use acrylic under coat i use a clear under coat in a spray can i have not used Brass Patina yet, give it a go it may work well.

I use a gun cold bluing for tubes. The patina should work the same.
