I am getting ready to paint the house and don't want to have to use a brush. I am looking into getting a paint a paint gun set up and after doing some research and reading reviews I am now less convinced an what to choose.

The house has cedar siding and stucco so no flat surfaces to use rollers. It is a two story house and the highest area to paint is around 24 feet from the ground so It will need a hose away from the main base. I will be using an outdoor latex paint and want to be able to do one coat of the same color and be done.

I will likely use the set up for painting the house and then eventually for repairs and touch up as required so don't need a super expensive commercial set-up, but I do need something that can handle the job properly. I have a HVLP system now and it works fine for spraying thin oil-based paints on small furniture but it won't spray latex and the hose is only 12 feet so it's a no-go for this job.

I have looked at the airless but not sure if it can handle the job and what if any advantages it has over the air ones.

So, anybody have any experience with one of these set-ups that they are happy with?

Thanks in advance, Eugene.

You can rent an airless sprayer from a good tool rental place. We used them to paint 2 story residential homes. You can get long hoses for it.Easy to use .Just open the 5 gallon paint bucket and put the feed tube in.

I second the airless painters and renting one is a great option. Just be sure to strain the paint.

The rental is the way to go because you don't have to be constantly refilling a smaller container...you just feed directly out of the 5 gallon bucket. Also, paint is cheaper if you buy it in the 5 gallon size.

Thanks all for the input. I thought about renting one but I know I am not going to get it all done in one swipe (it's a big house) so I would end up with several rental trips so I don't want to go that route.

So the new question, for those of you that have used the airless painters before if you were to purchase one which one would it be? What features are a must; able to handle 5 gal bucket, extension wands, tips...
Thanks, Eugene.

I have used the little quart sized "airless" sprayers before DO NOT attempt to use one for a house. You will regret it after the 14th or 15th fill-up.

Also, they have to be kept real clean or they will jam up and I have paid more in new parts then buying a new painter.

I found a returned airless sprayer at one of the big box stores and bought it to paint my house and block fence. It had the 5 gal paint can attachment and it was almost fun to do the job, almost.

So, if you do not rent one, then check out your big box stores for returned units.

Depending on the length of the hose you might want an extension so you do not have to move the 5 gal can.

I only used the tip that came with it, do not remember any specs on it. I used a big plastic shield to be able to spray 2 different colors up next to each other.

Now it sits in the attic waiting for the next time I get the urge to paint the house.
