Hey all! I've been playing around with the idea of repainting my room and making some shelves out of Red Oak (maybe another wood if I can afford it). What color paint works well with Red Oak? Thanks in advance!

Edit: Should clarify that I'm talking about paint for the walls, not the shelves.

IMO I think that depends on what you want to be the focal point of the room. I think a darker color makes the Red Oak stand out while a lighter color blends.

 oops..but Maybe you can start a new fad. Pickled Oak Drywall finish. Good luck with your project.

I have custom milled red oak trim all over my house. We stained it just a bit darker than it is naturally then painted some areas in a terra cotta color and others in a medium brown (kinda leaning toward tan but still brown). Came out great.

I like your thinking. I too have red oak trim and doors and stained a med color. I have rooms in blue, green tan and also wainscoting. Looks great.
