Here is my latest bowl...Padauk and Red Oak. Evelyn gave me some bowl blanks for Christmas and a 2"x 6" piece of Padauk was one of them, I added a piece of 3/4" Red Oak to what would be the top. I sanded from 80 grit to 12000mm. The outside has 6 coats of Pen's Plus I still need to apply 4 more coats to the inside. I happy I didn't blow through the bottom of this bowl and pleased with how it came out. All C & C welcome.

Very nice job Dan.

One way to ensure you don't go through the bottom when hallowing is to measure the depth you want on the outside, mark that on a drill bit with tape, and then drill a hole in the blank on the lathe. Don't forget to take your recess into account when measuring.

Great bowl. I have started turning lidded boxes. I was encouraged by your posting of those early bowls made from basic wood pieces that were glued up into turning blocks. I did the same thing and have had alot of fun learning. I hope to move into turning better materials. Thanks for sharing.
