More and more I see a lot of folks not stooping or even slowing down for stop sign's on the side streets to the road that Evelyn and I drive to and from work. You can tell they are not stopping since you can see them as you approach the street. I had to slow way down and a few times slam on the breaks. I'm not sure just why this is happening as I'm sure these folks know the law and obey them as we all do everyday. So the only thing I can come up with is that the stop sign's are out of order. (I use the them because when I was about 17 I rolled through a stop sign and was stopped. When I officer ask if I had seen he had seen the stop sign I said that I did. When he ask why I did not stop I told him the stop sigh was out of order. He tried had to laugh, he told me he had never heard that excuse before and let me go with a warning.) Has anyone else noticed people running stop sign's more then they have in the passed.

or turn arrows that don't work. I swear my light turns green and people are still turning left in front of me. Maybe I should get the town to check it out. Do you think that would work or are people just stupid?

I was lost in a residential neighborhood one day, and was going through many uncontrolled intersections...you know, slow down, look, then continue through. Suddenly I saw police lights behind me. I stopped and the policeman came up to my window and said "You didn't see that stop sign, did you?" My reaction was "What stop sign?" He laughed and said "I knew you hadn't seen it because you looked right at me and ran right through it." One of those intersections obviously wasn't "uncontrolled." He just told me to be more careful and didn't give me a ticket.

We have an out of order No Left Turn sign a couple blocks from here in front of the hospital... Almost hit a couple people there - at least they'd be close to where they needed to be.

Edit - and our speed limit sign must be broke too.

Sharon - I was in a Jeep DJ-5 with right hand drive (the postal jeep) stuck behind a car turning left out of a parking lot blocking 2 lanes. Right behind them was a green light, to my right (out my door which was wide open), was a NOPD cruiser. He was stuck too. Finally the car went, I took off and as I did I see the light go from yellow to red.

I went up moved right and pulled over. I knew he was coming. He pulls up, I'm at the back of the Jeep with papers in hand. He comes out says, "guess you know what you did". We talk for a few minutes about the Jeep. He hands me back my papers, and says "as far as anyone else knows you just got a ticket. Have a good day." ... I did.

It does seem like more and more people think that the laws are stupid and do not apply to them. There is a three way stop at the end of our street and in the morning and afternoon you take your life in your hands going that way. I have seen 3 cars go thru one behind the other and not even slow down.

In my neck of the woods apparently its ok not to stop at the stop signs at night if you turn your lights off. I've seen several cars at night kill their lights and speed through the intersection. I guess if you cant see it you don't have to stop. lol

Years ago I was sent into an area where the office had received several complaints of cars disobeying stop signs. It was an intersection near a residential area and was well traveled. My first stop of the evening was on a car that went through that intersection doing more than 25 mph. Never hit his breaks or even tried to slow down. The driver was an attorney and actually tried to make me feel as if I were doing something wrong. I still remember his words..." Ok, I know I went through that stop sign but don't you have anything better to do out here than sit out here and watch this intersection". Now I've never been a big ticket writer but that night, this man won my autograph with a court date. Surprisingly he pled guilty and paid the ticket. Maybe he knew I would get overtime for the court appearance. (lol) I call it job security, but I cant wait to retire.

Worse than that are people who text, read, etc. on their phones while driving. "OH, it's just for a second" - a lot like "I'm ok to drive - it's just a couple of beers'...

I think more deaths come from texting than drinking and driving...both of which are inexcusable

And are both illegal in Canada.

I worked base securty at NAS Millington, TN when I was in the Navy. I have a young man run a stop sign and tried to pull him over just to give him a warning. Well he was under the impression that if he left the base with out pulling over he was free and clear. He was so wrong, I gave chase and with the help of the local police we got him stopped. He got a ticket from me for running the stop sign plus one for speeding from the locals (65 in a 35). The judge on base suspended his on base driving privileges for a year. He was even more upset when I told him I was only going to give him a warning.
