I have also been tinkering of the idea of also turning some shot glasses. I am assuming I can forget about a finish. Would stabilized wood be safe? Any kind of plastic would be fine I guess, but I wanted to stay with wood. Has anyone tried this?

Same answer as with the stopper question. Even stabilized wood will need a well-cured finish. The shot glas should be rinsed and dried after each use.

I can't suggest a finish but alcohol will act like a nice solvent. A finish will have to be very tough.

I can't comment on the finish, don't know as much as these guys, but I like the idea.. would be a very unique addition to a home bar....

You may want to try salad bowl finish.

Wooden goblets have been used for hundreds of years. I think there was an argument about this a while ago. Search the net and you will find that wood will allow less germs to survive than plastic will. (search wood vs plastic cutting boards). The shot glass will be stained and gross looking over time but you will have less harm from no finish than if you had a finish, especially with alcoholic beverges.

I have turned many shot glasses from a variety of woods but I have used them for decoration and not for liquids.

Thanks for all the ideas on this and my other post. I will ponder these and go from there. I really want to do these in wood, but may go for an acrylic,
