Here is my latest creation in Osage Orange. I added a top of Ebony and styled it in a classis design w/o a center band. The scanned picture really does not do it justice. The cut is against the grain and after 5 attempts today I finally had success. The finish is blo/ca right off the lathe smooth as silk. Osage Orange as with most woods are difficult to turn in this way but wow, what a result!

Nice job with the pen and the endgrain turning. Did you use your bowl gouge? OO is one of my most favorite woods, especially the blanks I get from old fence posts.
Do a good turn daily!

Don, I used my 7/8" roughing gouge mainly as well as a 3/8" gouge, both sharpened several times during the turning, lots of sandpaper, frustration and tears.(5 attempts for this one) This pen was made for a gentleman that brought me 3 fence posts cut in the 80's but never used. OO is much better looking and more gratifying when cut the hard way!
