Do you live in or near Orlando?

My secretary's husband just got a new job requiring them to move to Orlando (from here in Cleveland). I'm trying to help her whip up some excitement and enthusiasm for the move for her and their 3 teenagers.

So, what are the best things about living in Orlando?

Maybe more persuasive:

It's in the middle of the state so Atlantic Beaches, Gulf Beaches and South Florida are all "day trip" doable. For someone from Cleveland, it will be beach weather 50 weeks out of the year.

Resident deals on all the many many many theme parks (for those who think theme parks can be considered a good thing).

No shoveling / driving in snow, ice or sleet.

It's still far enough north that you don't need to learn another language or show your passport to anyone.

There won't be a lot of people who will be telling you how nice Orlando used to be before Disney carpet bombed the area. And there are fewer every year.

They have a couple woodworking stores and exotic lumber suppliers in the area.

Your close to the Kennedy Space center! All your long lost relatives will now come visit you in the winter and use you as free accommodations! (saving them thousands) While they go play in the many theme parks. You dont have to worry about Tornadoes but can learn to hunker down and prepare for Hurricanes! And have 3 to 5 days advanced notice to start worrying! It does get cold in Orlando. Traffic in Season (Thats Tourist Season) quadruples!

Orlando

Has a very diverse population, meaning you get multiple ethnic groups from which to choose the one you hate the most. You can obtain a concealed weapons carry permit easily so you can have some protection from the ever lurking low lifes. Snakes, alligators, and bugs add greatly to the quality of life. Visiting tourists are the biggest pain but they do spend their money making our tax burden lighter. There is a Woodcraft store nearby and me as a pen blank source if he is into turning. Great weather 8 months a year.

And you not more than 2 hours away from anywhere hot, unlike us on the west coast. Not that I would give up my west coast living. Just saying.

It's not Cleveland!

Depends on where in Orlando but let's say he's down near Lake Underhill (SE Orlando).

Orlando has some real fine Indian and Thai restaurants.
It's an hour from Melbourne Beach, nearly the same to Cocoa Beach.
There are some real good turners in the area.

The AAW Annual Symposium is across the state in Tampa this year (end of June).

It's about 2 hours to Gainesville and great college football.
And it's SEC Football, not that stuff Ohio does--what is that??!

Florida is loaded with great parks with springs, beaches, cycling, fishing and more.
Of course, there's gators, skeeters and hurricanes but nothin's perfect.
