No longer confused....
This is some of the photo work that I do, wanted to share. If you see something you want to use somewhere then by all means use it.

Look at the grain pattern details on the white leaf here.

Those are super nice macro shots.

I used to take macros of ants, grasshopper eyeballs and all kinds of neat stuff. I took one of a slice of orange once and when I had them developed (yes, film), the photoshop wouldn't develope that one untill I convinced them what it was.

Beautiful Lily.

Thanks, I put some of the better ones up but I have loads more as my 1:1 macro lens is my primary used len :)

Getting prints and developing back in the day was, and is, a pain in the ass. When I went digital things really picked up. I had framers for my underwater housing and unable to use the viewfinder to take shots.

Love taking macro shots...spent most of an evening taking water droplet pics until we got what we felt was "the shot!" I like the flowers, but that eye close up is just awesome.

those are really cool!! LOVE the third one down (white with burgundy just in the center). What lily is that??? We planted several new varieties this year, but our blooms aren't nearly as spectacular!!! Here's hoping the second year will be better.....

I so want to get into this type of photography. I have talked with a friend who does superb photo work but would be interested in your thoughts on the camera to get as well as what lens.

The camera body itself does not really make that much of a difference to be honest. It does store the images and the MP size does matter. Other than that there are settings that are most often not used and all sorts of bells and whistles.

Lens is where the magic happens at. this determines how sharp, how in focus etc the image will be.

As for brands there are a good number out there and the best info that can be given is if you currently have one brand SLR body or lens then stick with that. i.e. you have a nikon slr body so stick with nikon mounts.

these were taken with a sigma 50mm 1:1 macro lens, it comes in mounts for canon, nikon, pentax and others as well.
