Optimum speed for drilling on the lathe

Hi everyone,

Last year I bought a OneWay chuck and a drilling chuck that will allow me to drill longer objects on the lathe. I'm finally getting down to business on a project that requires this type of drilling, but I don't know which speed is best to be drilling with. My options are 480, 1270, 1960, 2730, 3327 and 4023 RPM. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I routinely drill at the slowest speed on my lathe (I forget what it is). If I were you, I'd start at 480.
