Don't see why it wouldn't work well. It does seem a bit odd that it will cut a 48" circle but is only recommended for use on up to a 14" bandsaw... which if I am correct could only handle a 28" circle to begin with. Would speed bowl turning up greatly...

The 14" is the inside throat...it doesn't affect the diameter you are cutting since it is outside (right side if you are facing the BS)

I've seen a few simple home made ones that will probably work as well.

You can make a homemade jig for your bandsaw that moves the pivot point off of the table and then you are only limited by the room in your shop and your ability to rotate the blank. It only requires holding the blank steady enough to rotate it without changing the distance from blade to pivot point. Norm made one on the re-run that was on DIY channel this week.

I'm with Tommy on this one.... $59.99 plus tax and shipping? Build your own. Currently, I have a number of Masonite circles that I tack on top of the piece of wood and use as a guide. I will build a jig one of these days, but the circle templates work pretty good for now. Use two nails so the template doesn't turn as you cut the blank.

I agree that $60 is way too much to spend for something you could cobble up out of scrap wood and about a half hour of your time.

I use the software freeware calle gpaper to print out polar graph paper that I glue onto thin plywood or masonite. A nail/tack through the center and I can turn rounds up to 8 inches and never grab the compass. I never cut anything larger anyway. And I can spend 60 bucks plus shipping on wood......

Looks like a pretty good idea, but for the $60 you could buy new wood to make your own if you wanted... for bowl blanks I use a compass and draw my circles on the wood then free hand cut the blank... don't always get a perfect circle, but close enough for a bowl blank.. you're going to cut it round on the lathe anyway... if you need a better circle for some application other than a bowl blank, the jig would work well.
