okay, I'm sittin here laughing now, but I'm in a good bit of pain.

I was sitting down earlier, and the dogs needed to go out (home from work today) So I go to stand. Leg is asleep. okay, balance on one foot for a second to let the blood flow start back up. Dogs are impatient. figure I'll gimp over through the "pain". I'm not wearing any shoes.

Take a step. uh oh, leg buckles. I'm going down!! Feel something in my foot get pulled the wrong way, way off in the wrong direction. WAY OFF.Hit my head on something too. okay, that hurts and I shouldn't be feeling anything as that leg is alseep. I reach down and there's blood.

Dogs are on there own, I get up and hop to the bathroom. Can't tell for sure yet (I'll go to the doctor later) but little toe is now bigger than it's neighbor, the blood is coming from between and I'm pretty sure one or two are broken.

I think as I fell, the little toe tried to make a break for it, and the skin between him and the neighbor ripped.

All I can say for now is..... OOWWWWWIIIIIIEEEE

Yowzer!! Sounds like your toes decided to go separate ways:eek:

Is this what i have to look forward to as i get older:confused: My toes making a run for it:rolleyes::biggrin:

I agree with Tomas get a doggie door installed. BUT do they make ones big enough for the Sibes? I want to put one in for my black lab but the boss says no. Sorry but take care of that foot problem and get in the shop where it is safer :)P.

Geeze mike that sounds exactly the same way I sprained my ankle and pulled a Groin muscle a couple of years ago.
I feel your pain, but I didn't have any blood, but I did knock a corner off the coffee table. Thank goodness for a hard head. and I'll bet the dogs didn't help a bit!! mine still kept jumping in front of the door.

We have a terrier mix (35 lbs) and a Great Dane (145 lbs). Our doggie-door is the large size. The dane goes in and out through it but has to duck a bit. I actually built the door into the wall and it works great.

You know what they say ......

No photo, didn't happen!

You asked for it Mike. One nasty foot pic.

You see the cut on the inside of the little toe? Well, that is a rip. The skin ripped as the toe went to about 90 degrees from its brothers (pointed straight up in the pic). Then there is all the swelling in the area where the toe connects to the foot. Looks more blue in real life.

I left a trail of blood to the bathroom. and this is after the clean up.

Been to the doc. They cleaned it up more, and bandaged it. Have an appointment for x-rays tomorrow (another day off). Will know more then.

Edit: oh, and the docs and nurses loved my story of "Little toe tried to escape".

Dogs do that to ya

I'd feel no sympathy for you except being a dog guy myself - I know that they really own us and we must jump when they command....Get well quick.

you might be surprised....

Glad you got it looked at. I'm pretty sure I would have totally lost my cool.

You might be surprised by how you would react....I cut my hand pretty bad a few years ago on my table saw and I was astounded when I looked back on it at how calm and collected I was. I would have predicted complete panic but there was none at all.

We often react to emergencies both large and small in a much different manner that we would ever guess.

Mike - Thank you for sharing. Sure am glad you are young. Of course us older guys would have made the dog (family member) wait until feeling had returned to our foot and leg before trying to navigate anything do to the fear of falling. I hope that after a few hours you are feeling better and the swelling has gone down.

So is Lilian upset about all the blood that needed cleaned up?

Well I sure as heck don't get much sympathy from her. But she won't look at, and is annoyed when I respond to people asking with "pinky toe tried to escape"

Yeah I should know better. Its not like I'm a spring chicken anymore myself. The big 4-0 is right around the corner after all.

some good news is if it is a toe they dont cast it you just tape it to the other and it will heal now if it is your foot then it may have a different outcome been there done that

Yea..that's a real bugger, but better the little toe than the big one. I think I broke my little toe about 3 weeks ago and it still is tender. I walked it into the kitchen chair early in the morning getting ready for work. It hurt pretty good, but i shook it off. Several hours into the work day I was hobbling around with the pain and at the end of the day when I got to my hotel and took off my shoes and socks, that toes was as red and black as could be..looked like it was dead for several weeks and just washed up on the beach!

You know a couple weeks back Micheal Vick thought he broke his hand, but it turnerd out it was just a blood vessel over the bone. I'm sure that's all this is......:doctor:. Yep one big blood vessel that caused the bone to veer off at an odd angle.

One a side note: I hope you have Aflac. They pay cash when you're injured. You can then use that cash for things like "DocStram's Signature Space Rental"

I broke my toe getting out of bed one day, yes getting out of bed. Hadn't even put the damn toe on the floor.....I will wait for the laughing to stop......Little guy was sticking straight perpendicular to the rest. Doc looked at the X-ray, looked at my foot, smiled reset it. Then the bastard said "did that hurt?" Surprisingly it did not hurt at all. 20 minutes later was a different story. You have my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

The reason that little toe exists is to cause pain.
