I'm using a Oneway live center set and the tip is aluminum so keeps getting dented and rings wearing on it. Is there a steel one I can put on the end so it lasts?

Thanks, guys.

Stephen you can buy a pen-turners point and there are a fairly good size, not as big as the aluminum one but a good size.

alternatively get yourself a 60 degree live centre for a metal lathe. These are hardened & meant for using with (you guessed it) metal.
Wood lathe centres are generally not hardened & not suitable for use with metal mandrels for exactly the reasons you state.

Hope that helps.

Actually there is a reason it is not hardened. It is a soft center so that the piece is not damaged. You can use the pen tip or you can make soft tips from wood to use so that you can use it to support your work.
