I hate it when even when you think you are doing everything right, you get a crack while assembling the pen. So I started with clean tubes, chamfered ends, slight salivary lubricant and slow straight, even pressing yet a crack was the result.
I disassembled the pen, sanded, cleaned it well and reapplied both thin and pen finish CA. It made it back from the brink. I carefully looked for the crack to locate the clip and it took a while to find it; very pleased about that.
