One piece pencil

I found this pencil kit in my stash and it didn't have a center band. I turned an Aluminum coupler, pressed the two tubes on it for a one piece tube. I had a piece of Buckeye burl from the Loser's train a couple years ago. Drilled, turned and finished with a BLO and 3 coats of clear satin wipe-on poly. Another fun part was creating a spreadsheet to help me calculate the steps and diameters to make a curved profile on my metal lathe. I after turning the steps I finished with files and sandpaper.

Isn't it fun to make a two barrel pen or pencil into a single barrel ? !!!

Nice use of a spreadsheet to get the step sizes for profiling on a metal-working lathe !!

I use a metal lathe for all my pens, but I don't do the profiling that way. . I calculate taper angles and adjust the cross-slide accordingly.
This gives me a close approx. to the profile and I then use sandpaper.

I think you have seen my threads on doing one-piece Cigar pens in this way.

Thanks, I like your one piece cigars. Very nice work. I use my cross slide for shorter runs like kitless caps.
