both my dad and one brother have Parkinson's my dad passed a few years ago from this; it turned into dementia.

Very sorry to hear that, Greg. I hope that you are able to manage the progression and keep a good quality of life going forward.

Prayers for you, Greg. A close friend has Parkinson's. One thing the doctor said was to go to the local Y and participate in their boxing program with others. Helps with coordination and balance, I believe. This is a Wednesday ritual for him.

My sympathies Greg,
That's a 20 for sure. Try your best to stay optimistic. Parkinson's is like a black cloud over my family. My younger sister is going through the last stages now. She was diagnosed 15 years ago.

Signing up for a gym membership. Was going to anyway.

Obviously a lot to think about.
Having friends like here will be important.
Telling my current friends they are important to me will be a priority.
Should have been before now.
Caring if I p…, people off not a problem. Actually never, was.
All part of the journey I guess and gives a different perspective.

At some point I have a Beale Pen Wizard to donate. NIB.
A lot of things I didn't get around to.

One of my favorite movies is The Bucket List.
Fortunately I don't have a list.
I have been able to do anything I wanted.
Skydiving, touring the country on a motorcycle, flying a helicopter and fixed wing airplane.

My parents went ape sh** when they found out about the motorcycle.
I always told them there are worst ways to die.
'Told you so!'

Not the way I envisioned going out. Figured I'd get hit by a beer truck.
Shot by a jealous husband? Just kidding on that one.

At least they have cool t-shirts for PK.

It's not 'Why did the guy with Parkinson's cross the road?' But 'How did the guy…?'
I can make the jokes now.
Hey it can be my excuse for everything! :)

Appreciate the thoughts from everyone.
Being 70 the time left may be a wash.
Warning rambling to follow:
I've been more of a lurker than a contributor here due to my lack of talent.
My sense of humor has always been shall we say out of left field.
Just saying you haven't seen anything yet :)
'None so free as one with nothing to lose'
Stay tuned. Will probably create a FB page.
That's what you do for everything now, right?
Like the McDonald's logo, how many people I've pi..ed off to date.
George Carlin was my hero and role model.

Dark humor, I like it. That's something I need to be mindful about at work.

Hopefully I won't get myself banned by Jeff.

First installment:
Entitled to make the jokes.

It's not why the guy with Parkinson's crossed the road but how.

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. If I may ask who made the diagnosis ? The reason I ask is that most GP's are not that familiar with PD and its various forms, if you haven't seen a Dr. who is a Motion Specialist I would strongly urge you to do so.

I got my PD diagnosis about 6 years ago, Something that you need to remember that you are not alone in this situation. Your partner will be a major source of strength. Remember that they also willl be going through the various stages of this disease along side of you.

A couple of things to remember:
1. You can live a full life with PD, you only have to be willing to learn to o somethings differently.
2. Exercise - it is the best thing you can do to delay the progression of PD, (at this time) there is no I cure for PD.
3. Take care of yourself which leads to something you need to remember " You will not die from Parkinson's but you will die with it."

Good luck, find a support group and join it:

In Eugene, OR we have a Parkinson's Ping Pong group. Lots of fun! Your humor would be in good company. Great for hand/eye/body/brain coordination.

Diagnosis by a neurologist.
She shouldn't play poker, could tell by the look on her face it wasn't going to be good. I
Did a scan to rule out other factors.
Joined a gym and signed up with a physical trainer.
Joined a couple of FB groups.
Focusing on keeping a positive attitude after a few down days, as important as anything in my opinion.
Thx,
Greg

Greg, I'm sorry you are having to go through this. For what it's worth, my father in law had PD for over 20 years. He passed 23 years ago so I'm betting advances have been made during this time. For instance, I understand medications are better and more effective. He wasn't one to exercise but he took his meds religiously. He was high functioning for 18 of those 20. Assuming you are a pen/wood turner, I'm betting you should be able to continue to do so, and quite well, for a good long time. Just watch out you don't get run over by a bus!
