I picked this segmented blank up with a bunch of other wood at an estate auction a few months ago and finally got around to turning it. Sorry about the lousy before photo.
The result.
This was the hardest bowl I've turned to date. The grain runs every direction imaginable... even into some dimensions I've not expeienced before. This made avoiding chip outs a real bear! The bowl is 4 5/8" by 2". Started out trying Minwax Polycrylic on it, but didn't like it. Sanded it down and sprayed it with polyurethane. I think I'll just stick to Mylands or Mineral Oil from now on.
