I picked up my $25.00 1960 lathe today and set it all up. I have to say, I like it alot. Im still not used to it yet since I never worked with a full size lathe before. So this is my very first large item made with a $25.00 lathe from ebay.

It is a baseball bat strictly out of my head (no template or specs.). I turned it from a piece of birch I cut down out of my back yard. I have to say also, I like the way the birch comes out. Anyway, I finished it with some 320 sp, coated it with ipswich pine stain and spray lacquer.

Awesome. I will try the next one with the template. It is a lot of fun turning the larger items. You should try it.

That's pretty good just wingin' it! I have an ash blank that is waiting to become a bat, but I just haven't worked up the courage yet to try it since I'm new to this whole thing. Here is the templete I will be following (33"):
