Very nice . Too bad some of those pleasant smells we encounter in some woods don`t last . Might consider wrapping a half blank in AL foil and giving it to the recipient to show them the way it was .

Haven`t turned mulberry for years . Will dig some out and try again .

I have some Japanese mulberry and have made some bowls from them. Japanese mulberry looks a lot like teak in color when turned or freshly sawn, but they turn almost walnut brown when left in the sun.

Asian mulberry were the trees from which silk worms lived and produced silk.

Nice looking pen. Where did you get the mulberry?

This came from a "box of blocks" from woodturnerscatalog. Most of the pieces are perfect bowl blanks usually domestic hardwoods. I was excited to see this in there even though it had a hairline crack running through. I didn't want to risk it cracking further while turning so i made blanks out of it.
