I don't know how many people have used the online websites to make photo books, but they've become quite popular over the past year or two, and really make high quality phot books. Another thing that's become quite popular is groupon- which if you don't know about is a great site to get deals near where you live or online. They offer a daily deal for things like local restaurants and activities, always at 50% or more off, but they also have a bunch of online deals that anyone from anywhere can buy, even if you don't live in or near the city where they're advertised. Anyway, I'd been thinking that I wanted to make one of those photo books of all the things I've turned. I've kept pictures of everything, and kept them in a word document that's gotten to be well over 100 pages. I have printed them out from time to time on photo paper so I have most of the pages just in insert sleeve sheets in a 3-ring binder, but after I made one of these photo books for my mom and myself with pictures from our summer vacation, I realized that making a book with my turning projects would be a great idea and would look much more professional and sophisticated than my 3-ring binder method. So I'd been watching groupon for a deal for the photo books, since I knew I'd seen some before and today one popped up. Thought I'd share the link in case anyone else is interested in doing the same thing:

These are time-limited deals so this one ends about 8 pm pacific time Tuesday night it looks like.

Even if you're not interested in making a photo book, I'd really encourage anyone to check out to see if where they live is a groupon city, because I've gotten some great deals and gotten to try some fun things with it.

I'm working on putting a photo book together right now. That way if you're meeting with a potential cliet you don't have to lug a suitcase full of pens. most definitely take some but not ALL of the various options. I'm using a business portfolio. It has a 3 ring setup but much nicer than a binder and it also has places to keep your business cards and a notepad for clients to tryout my pens. I think with a standard photo album you'll be spending alot of time keeping it organized each time you print a new set of pictures. it is a great idea though.

My wife has used an online company called Winkflash. She stores pictures on their site with the books already to go. She just waits for when they have a coupon or sale. Although I have never used it for pens we have really liked the books we got from them.

I think there are pros and cons to any options. The disadvantage to doing a photo book like this is that it's a set number of pages, and you can't add additional pages, like you can if you have things in a three ring binder. But I feel like my three ring binder doesn't look very good, and I think that a book that looks like a professionally printed, coffee-table type book, would look so much nicer. I decided that since I've been turning for about five years now, I'll make one now, and maybe call it "my first five years of turning". And then maybe in another couple of years, I'll make another one...

It also gets kind of pricey to keep printing out pages with pictures, between buying the photo paper, and the ink. While some of the online photo books are pretty pricey at regular price, when there are special offers or promotions, or discount deals like this, I think it ends up being actually cheaper to do things this way. The book that I did for the vacation that my mom and I took was probably an even better deal, that I only found out about the night the promo was ending, or I would've shared it here. It was for a 20 page hardcover book, with a leather cover, that I only had to pay nine dollars shipping on. I know there's no way I could've printed out and scrapbook all the pictures I put into that book for less than nine dollars, and instead I ended up with a very nice quality hardcover book. This is a link to the book I made for that project- it was a lot of fun and I actually didn't get too creative with it, I could have done a whole lot more to make it even better, but I was running out of time on the promo, but like I say, I definitely think it was worth $9:

Angela, that's a great album that you have assembled. Thanks for sharing your 'pics' and memories. Looks like you had a great time doing Geostock 2010.
