I had an idea I've been working on for a while (I'm a little slow sometimes).

Here's the blank after the glue-up and a little bit of cleanup:

and here's what it looked like after rough turning:

Unfortunately, scroll down for the "rest of the story"

I'll report back after the next attempt

You know .. as I look at it, I don't know that I'd go in two directions on this one.
I'd let it flair out to the side and then come back .. no crossing in the middle.

But.. that's just MY eye. (the one that can see. kinda. )

Great concept. I think that it will look great when you get it to hold together. Don't you just love these "design opportunities".

Time for some casting now? The break out seems clean. Wondering if it is lending itself to a PR fill. The design is killer!

Thanks for the comments, folks.

I'm not giving up on this, just need to start over.

The laminations were glued together with slow-cure ("overnight") epoxy. I actually left it clamped together for 3 days, and it sat another couple days before I turned it.

I was pretty close to final size when it blew up. I must have let my tools get a little dull :-(

Your pics made me cuss out loud. Awesome attempt. Look forward to seeing your next try.

I think I would have finished it the way it is....Taken a "carefully composed" photo  .... and told everyone that it was going to be my personal carry pen!:smile:

But You will persevere!
