I would like to let my Friends and Acquaintances know that I shall be "Off the Air" for a couple of months.
I have an Appointment with my Orthopedic Surgeon on Monday October 17, for a Knee Replacement.
It seems that most of my people I have met with over the past two years are all Medical Practitioners, or Wood Turners, the latter I can easily understand, as they are the Circle of my Interest.
Whereas the Former, are obviously significant of my "Too Many Birthdays".
This Appointment came up somewhat suddenly, for approximately 62 years ago, I had three Menisceptomies, on my Right Knee, to remove the Torn Portions of the Medial and Lateral Meniscus.
Back in those Days, prior to the general use of Arthroscopic Surgery each Procedure resulted in two weeks in Hospital, plus six week, convalescing .
And of course back in those days, I was Young, Slender, Fit, and considered myself to be Bullet Proof.
Today, I am Aged, Overweight, Unfit, and almost over the Hill
Though I do consider myself fortunate, to have gotten 62 years out of the Knee, before it "Yelled I've Had Enough".
I have been told I will be In Hospital for between 3 to 5 Days, and they will get me up on my feet on Day 2. I will be discharged to a Rehabilitation Hospital for Intensive Physio, etc., for 1 to 2 weeks.
Then I will be an Outpatient and receive daily treatment for an undefined period.
I expect that this facility, is an ancient Torture Chamber, left over from the Convict Era in Australia's Early History.
I will not be able to drive for a period, so I will be somewhat isolated, but I have plenty to do.
I will be back in touch as soon as I can concentrate on what I am doing.
Till then Please Keep Well my Friends, and keep those Beautiful Pens Rolling.
Kind Regards,
Brian.

I hope the op goes well Brian. It's amazing how quickly they have you walking after this sort of thing.
I had an acl reconstruction about 10 years ago, they had me walking on it the next day, I walked out of hospital albeit with one crutch.
We'll see you back here when you are ready. Good luck Mate.

Thank you Brad for your warm words of encouragement. Yes they don't muck around these days, they turn you out and have someone in your bed before it get's cold. Obviously that's the best way for a fast recovery "Up and Out".
Kindest regards,
Brian.

Best to you Brian. And I pray that my sadistic therapist nor any of her relatives have relocated to your part of the world. I hope all goes well, and you will be back here soon.

Wishing you the best Brian . Hurry back , heal fast . I will miss your posts , not only are you an expert wordsmith , but all your posts are uplifting and honest . Best of luck .

Brian,
Prayers and best wishes to you and your doc....and PT folks.
Know that your temporary absence here on IAP will be missed.
You have been and are the "voice of encouragement " for many penturners!
I look forward to seeing your comments/compliments when I catch up on new posts.

Take care!......and know that the IAP force is with you!

Heal Quickly!

From another 62 year old from Southeast Arkansas, it is my prayer that everything will go smoothly for you and that you will be up to Pen Turning soon!

Brian, why so long off the air? It's only operation on your knee not on hands or brain!
I do hope operation will go fine and you soon will be able to use the computer so we can read your heartwarming comments.
Wishing you all the very best.

No lathes at the rehab center? -- how barbaric!

Best wishes for a successful operation, Brian - and a speedy recovery. We will miss you while you are gone & look forward to your return. Your posts of encouragement and wisdom always brighten my day.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Edgar

Brian, my friend, you will be in my prayers for a speedy recovery. And there will be prayers for Evelyn. The poor woman - having you around 24 x 7 for weeks on end!

All kidding aside, you will be missed here on IAP. As others have said, your words of encouragement have been a mainstay for many turners.

Does/t Oneway make a sit-down lathe? Perhaps your doctor can write a prescription for one:smile:

Hurry back, my friend.

Good luck, Brian !!!! . I am quite sure you will be back here sooner than you think.

We will miss your cheerful visage, warm and complimentary comments, and friendly encouragement until you return.

All the best !!!

Brian

I've known many people who have had knee surgeries and over the past few years it seems as though they are getting better and better what what they do. At the same time they are reducing the recovery time significantly. Although the first few weeks can be frustrating, in short order virtually every person I talk to who has had knee surgery says something like "I wish I had done this sooner." May the Great Physician guide your recovery!

Good luck with the surgery. You will be back here before the week is up. They do not let you lay around or you develop blood clots. You will be up and walking next day. Take some time to get pain to go away but no reason you can not type on a keyboard. Take care and good luck.

Thanks Chuck, for your Kind Wishes.
I don't think I need your Sadistic Therapists or Her Relatives, I am sure we have More than Sufficient Home Grown Ones.
I love it when they have your leg around your neck, and twist your lower knee , and say "This won't Hurt a Bit" Yeah Who do they think they are kidding, but they won't Let's Change Positions for a While. :curse:

Thank you Herb, for you Well Wishes, and Kind Words. I am pleased that my Comments convey the Intended Sincerity, Honesty, and hopefully at time, a little Humour.
Kind regards,
Brian.
