The Best of IAP pen contest CLOSES for entries on the 21st---next WEDNESDAY!!!

So USE THE WEEKEND all you great penmakers!!

There are four divisions and, although there have been some entries, there is still room for more!!

See rules here: http://www.penturners.org/forum/contest.php

It is important that we support this first contest, so that we can keep the interest of the magazines, and attempt to make this an annual event.

I have had a couple questions about the different divisions and why there is not a "wood" section, since the sponsor is WOODturning Design. Please remember this is the FIRST time this contest has been tried. AND one of the three judges is from Woodturning Design. Yathink he might FAVOR wood???

You'll never know, if you don't enter!!!

I dont Know Ed. Jeff has already stated he has it bagged and tagged and its off to the photographers. Seems a bit late to send an entry. Maybe he left a consolation prize for the rest of us?

Mike,

I know you consider EVERY WORD uttered by the great MasterScroller to have been sent down from heaven on the wings of several angels, BUT he can only ENTER three divisions and there are multiple prizes--

So he CAN'T WIN EVERYTHING!!!

I have a question..... how do the judges know if a clip is from a kit, or not? Aren't there clips that are made apart from pen kits?

I've said before.....I need to learn how to make clips. Mike Redburn makes them out of wood. Darnedest thing I've seen. Maybe by the next contest I'll have learned or figured out something.

All entries are being mailed to Scott.

One of the judges is Kurt Herzog.

I suspect ONE of the two of them would recognize nearly ANY kit clip.

You pays your money, you takes your chances!!

There is only 1 category that doesn't allow pen kit parts. There are 3 others.

Yes, time is drawing short. I would think that you would want to send your entries no later than Monday. The rule is that they need to be received by me by the 21st. If you have sent an entry, and you don't have a confirmation I have received it by the end of the day on the 21st, please drop me an E-Mail! I want your entries!

To tell the truth, I am kind of disappointed by the response to this contest. Change my opinion by sending lots of entries today!

Scott.

Scott, this is the first year for this contest and i suspect that most are apprehensive and a little intimidated by the immense talent on the IAP. I think that a lot will not enter because to them they KNOW they will not win any category and it would only be a waste of there money. Would it?........... Sure if you think of it as money, but if you think of it as joining in on being a part of the best and most talented group of pen makers in the WORLD, we are Internationl, then no, its not a waste. Its a donation to yourself to help support this first time contest and maybe secure it for many years to come. Its also a way to get you name and face and a article about yourself into a well recognized magazine, Woodturning Design, and possibly into Pen World, which is the big one for me. I encourage all to participate to help set this contest into stone for the future.

There are also some people that just didnt have enough time to complete the pens because of the short deadline, And i hope that if there arent as many entries as the judges would like, that they understand all of this as well, and that next year there will be more entries into the contest, since everyone will have a year to get there pens done:biggrin: I for one am in on this all the way:biggrin: You can count me in for 3

Someone asked me if I had participated and I didn't. I guess I didn't feel like my talents measured up. Wait til next year. Did someone say I could only win in three categories? Bummer:)

Well, yes and no. If you don't enter, you can't win in ANY categories!!
TRIPLE BUMMER---Eh???

Lets see 4 catagories 3 places each plus the "Best Pen over all" means theres plenty of room to win. Thats 13 slots someones pen is going to win. The only way you lose is to not enter a pen.Having someone scrutinize your pen that isnt impressed with "thats good enough" and entering a pen will force you to re-examine every little thing you do to make sure its as perfect as you can make it. It will make you a better pen maker for it. Do your friends say your anal? enter a pen. Do they say your a gifted artist? enter a pen. YOu say you dont have any friends? Make a pen and make a friend.

Thats if there is a next year. Hopefully with the turn out the judges dont think they have wasted there time and not do it next year. Theres still time, make one and overnight it on Monday. We need your support to ensure this is here next year. And who knows, you might win. You never know unless you try.

I would need lots of time to figure out what to make. If they have a contest next year I will hopefully be ready. Trying to come up with something original is kinda hard. Seems like there is nothing new under the sun.

Of course most things have been done. But you might end up saying the same thing next year. Its not about making an original pen. Expecially in the open category. None of my pens will be original, nor did i take a lot of time to think about them. I just made 3 beautiful pens and am going to give it a shot. Im not expecting to win, and will be happy to lose to these people, but i will be happy all the same if i do. Give it a shot. You can only help, not hurt by entering.
