Woodcraft will have the Nova midi chuck w/6 sets of jaws on sale Black Friday for 125.00. Is this a good set & deal? It doesn't say what kind of jaws ect.

Can this chuck be used in reverse?

Thanks
Darryl

This is a "tommy bar" chuck and is a good value. The cost of the jaws is more than the package. The picture on the back of the recent woodcraft catalog shows a geared chuck, but the description is for the tommy bar version.

None of the scroll chucks are made to run in reverse as they come. You have to install a "grub screw" also called a locking screw into the adapter so the chuck has resistance from unscrewing. I have had to drill and tap some of the adapters, and others come threaded.

I suggest nylon screws or grub screws with nylon or brass inserts to keep the headstock threads from getting damaged by the grub screw. Slower speeds in reverse is conservative safety.

Jaws are 20mm Mini Jaws, 25mm Jaws, 50mm Jaws, 70mm Jaws, Mini Spigot Jaws, Mini Step Jaws, and Woodworm Screw.

These are the jaws for smaller bowls (25mm is about 1 inch) and this is especially good for small items -

Compare with the Barracuda sets from PSI

Look at the stock number, 152659; it's this one at about $100 off the regular price:
