I own several of these (I keep buying them when they are 40 or 50% off). I recently started using them without the screw-on jaw attachements. In other words, just the adjustable, sliding, permanently attached jaws. Is that ok?
I had Nova on phone yesterday, but had a different question. I am using it this was to hold small and medium sized round parts. Thank you for reading.

It should be if it holds the part tight enough to work on it. I have put blocks on two of the jaws to make a square lookine piece to the chuck and it always held fine. Cheers, Jim Jakosh

Another think you can do is use cole jaw buttons on them.

Yes you can use it that way but realize you are not getting a very strong grip on your piece. If you are going to turn small round stock on a regular basis you should consider getting a collet chuck.
