I hate to be the new guy asking questions here, but here goes.
I have been looking to upgrade lathes, I have a Ridgid tube lathe. It was a great starter but I am looking to get a new midi. The only thing I turn is pens and small items so a midi will be plenty big for me.
I have been searching and reading reviews. I have decided on a Nova Comet. It is in the price range I want and the desired features. Variable speed being the biggest desired feature for me on this new lathe. I notice they have an upgraded version to correct some of the common complaints of the earlier models. My question is does anyone have this lathe and what are your recommendations? Would you buy it again or go for something else? I have read a few reviews here and was wanting to know how the lathe is holding up after a few months use.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Dale

Thanks guys for the responses. I have read everything I can find as far as threads here and a couple other sites that I can find about the lathe. There doesn't seem to be too many people that have them and info varies greatly which is why I asked the question here.
Thanks Mike for the tip about woodturnigz they are the same price after shipping is added as amazon right now,but the may change who knows.

Preacherman, lot of competition in mini lathe market Comet II relatively new lathe. Sale price makes it tad more competitive, regular price not so sure. Simply just another China made lathe.

Jet 1220 if can find one tad more better on price just not sure about service after the sale.

Delta 46-460 and much beefier Jet 1221, and much more expensive than average ½ HP mini lathes might well be last lathe you ever buy.

The delta and jet are certainly much better lathes I know. However, I can get a Nova Comet for 499. Delivered free from amazon. That leaves two or three hundred for other toys:wink:

I have also considered a grizzly g0658 for around the same price as the nova comet but have heard negative things on grizzly lathes in general but not this model. I am still searching and reading everything I can find but l am fairly certain it will be the Nova comet.

Preacherman, when you are through thinking and looking buy a Comet II mini and enjoy it. Around the first of the year, several folks here bought on sale and saved about $100. No idea what paid for shipping. Have no idea when will go on sale again, just seems price increases usually follow any sales.

Turncrafter 12" 1 hp VS mini on sale over at PSI now, several folks here have that lathe too!
