With this new model Comet, I see they increased the motor from 3/4 HP to 1 HP. Also, the tailstock locking mechanism has been redesigned.....the Comet II had a big issue with tailstock creep as the locking mechanism just wasn't up to snuff.
From the pictures, it appears the tool rest may still have a 5/8" post instead of 1". There may be an insert/reducer in the banjo in these pictures....maybe you can use both 5/8" and 1" posts.
My guess (and this is my opinion) is that this lathe as with most mini/midi lathes is that while you can turn a bowl at maximum diameter, it most likely will be a struggle. At 14", you are approaching full size lathe capacity and need a husky motor to get the job done. Take a look at the size of the (1 HP) motor on a OneWay 12/24. It will get the job done very nicely....great all around everyday lathe....but then you are in a different level of quality .....and of course price range.
