The pen is a PSI Nouveau Sceptre fountain in rhodium and gold. The wood is from a birch tree branch my friend Olga picked up near a river when we were on an outing a couple of years ago. She's been bugging me to make a pen out of it. Her 60th birthday is coming up in December, so I thought I'd see how it would look. I know birch can be bland, but I lucked out and got a couple of "eyes" in it. The finish is Watco Danish oil and Pens Plus. It turned out prettier than I expected. I'm very, very happy with it. I'll have it engraved before I give it to her.

Very nice Jim! I will readily acknowledge that plain grain timbers are not as visually exciting as burls and others, but I still feel that each blank has its own beauty.

Yours is a very beautiful pen - well done.

Thank you Mark. In this case, it will mean a lot to Olga because she "harvested" the wood. There could have been even less grain, and she still wood have liked it. The eyes and visible grain are bonuses to me.
