I did some experimenting with making my own blanks again and this was the results. I 3d printed the resinwerks honeycombs using rose gold silk pla and cast it with alumilite and eye candy pigments (Rose Gold, Hanada Turquoise, and Gage Green). The wood is a maple burl that I stabilized with gold dyed cactus juice.

Fantastic. I have suspected for a long time that silk PLA would make a really excellent accent material for segmenting. I have copper, silver, gold, gunmetal, and mother-of-pearl. Oh and pink, now that I think of it; my daughter wanted something made in a shiny metallic pink.

I don't cast, but I ought to try doing some segmenting with this and wood!

Edit: BTW, which kit is this?

It's the Beaufort Ink Notus kit that I got from turners warehouse. I am experimenting with silk, wood, and metal pla in the coming weeks. I did experience some blowout but nothing that ruined the blank and I made sure to finish with Glu Boost just to seal things up

Yeah Silk PLA on its own isn't a particularly hard wearing or robust material, but as accents, and especially under a CA finish, I'm guessing it would be just fine.

I've never messed with any of the actual metal-filled filaments, only the faux-metallic silk PLAs of various flavors. Be very interested to see how things come out when you try it!
