Dawn and I took off Friday morning for a quick trip to SE Nebraska and SW Iowa to see members of both sides of her family. Had a great time but it was all too short.

Her uncle in Iowa gave me a couple of new toys to play with. An old Delta 4" jointer and an old forge. Jointer works, just needing a good cleaning. The forge is going to need some TLC. He has 2 huge shops just crammed with stuff he buys and never gets around to using. He has a "still" with which he makes his own diesel fuel out of recycled cooking oil. Owns and operates several pieces of heavy equipment. When he isn't working for others he is always building or adding on to his home, or my mother in laws home which is on the same acerage. He is always designing and building something. The guy is something else. His newest interest is hydrogen power. He is like the energizer bunny. And he is only 72! Anyway, here are the toys he sent home with me (he did tell me to bring a trailer next time!!)

That forge looks like it would benefit from a good bath in an electrolysis rig to remove the rust, and with a little grease after that, might just crank up and run. I've rebuilt a couple of buffalo blowers in the long ago, it's not exactly rocket science. Then I got smart and moved to a propane forge for working blades, and never looked back. Haven't done any hot work in years though :-(

Not sure how much I'll use it but I do want to clean it up and get it working. If anything, it'll make a novelty charcoal grill!!!!

You have started down another slippery slope....I too restore some old machinery ... I am currently working on an old Davis & Wells 6" jointer, and an old Cincinatti grinder and stand that I will set up for buffing. Have fun man, it is addictive because they don't make them like they used to!
