Ebony and Maple. Ebony sanding dust and Maple do not mix. Couldn't get all the dust off the Maple. Probably won't make any more of these blanks.

Try using you skew for a smooth finish and then forgo sanding. I use this technique on segmented pens with good results. That's a good looking blank even with the sanding dust blemishes.
 
That is a beautiful pen. I would clean it good with alcohol on the lathe I can usually get most of my dust off with that. Ebony is a tough one though. I love the concept of this pen though!
