Apparently a few of you who call us sometimes on the "copier company" line have found out our phones don't work (reliably).

We had a problem with our water heater overheating and it generated enough heat and humidity to make it "rain" in the small room it occupies (which also happens to be where our phone system is housed).

When the phones stopped working, I went into the room and we have, since, had the water heater replaced and we are running an industrial fan, trying to dry out the area (especially the "KSU" unit that controls the phones)

So, if you call Exotics' line---it works!!!

If you know anything about KSU units and have any suggestions, I'm open to them. Lines one and two (on a rollover answering system, at the phone company) BOTH ring when either is called. Most of the time, if we don't answer the phone, it goes to our voice mail (also at the phone company) and we can retrieve the messages from another phone.

The phone guy came out, tested the line and he gets a strong dial tone on either line--direct from his equipment, bypassing our KSU.

So, if you want to call us----use Exotics. Also our fax number works.

But, for the last several days, it appears that there are times you get nothing, if you call----NOT a good thing.

So, who's a retired KSU fixer????

Thanks,

Ed

MAN! You are dealing with some really outdated technology!

The only really good thing about KSUs is that they requires "home run" wiring. This means that the "BOX" will be really close to the point of demarcation for the incoming phone lines.

It sounds like you are only using 2 or 3 lines and a seperate fax line? The simplest thing would be either to buy a used Nortel box ( cheap as dirt on EBay and I JUST took a couple to the dump) OR just omit the box completely (this is very "doable" if you don't need a bunch of intercom extensions) and buy a couple of inexpensive 2 line phones and wire them directly from the phone company RJ11s.

OR, port your current phone numbers to a VOIP system (like 8x8.com or even the local cable company) and save a PILE OF MONEY.

The phones are once again mostly operative!!

Exotics is completely repaired, and only one of the "copier lines" is sporadic, the rest work fine.

Thanks to all who PM'd me---I ended up purchasing a multi line wireless phone system and installing it myself. Not all functions are working yet, but it's a big manual---thirty pages at a sitting is good enough:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
